Information Commons Free Printing

Beginning January, every K-Stater will be eligible for $10 worth of high quality laser printing in the fall and spring semesters and $5 in the summer-- free. The $10 value is equivalent to 100 black and white printed pages or 13 color laser printed pages. Free printing will be available in the InfoCommons and the University Computing Labs including Hale Library, Dickens, Seaton, Nichols, Justin, Union Computing Center and the Interactive English lab.

K-Staters can opt to print a combination of black and white or color and single or double sided pages up to $10. The Wildcat Card will be required for any printing beyond the $10 value. Unused balances will not carry forward to the next semester.

Free printing was extensively tested during the fall semester. Tammy White, Directory Services Senior Analyst for CNS, serves as the project lead and pilot-tested the system during the fall semester. All K-Staters who participated received the equivalent of $2.00 of free laser printing. The project was so successful that it is expanded this semester to a $10 maximum.

K-Staters can access free printing using their eID/password or guest account in the InfoCommons and University Computing labs. (If users do not have an eID/password, they will need to create one at eid.k-state.edu).

Users will first send their print jobs from the lab workstations. Next, users will release their print jobs at the print release stations located near each laser printer (in the InfoCommons and University Computing Labs near each laser printer). There, K-Staters will be prompted to log in with their eID/password to access their free-printing account balance.

If the user has free printing available, the pages will print. If the user, has depleted their account balance, they must then insert their Wildcat (Debitek) card and pay for printing. Black and white copies are 10 cents per single-sided sheet or 18 cents per double-sided sheet. Color copying is available in the Media Development Center for $0.75 per single sided sheet.

If users have any problems with the free or pay for print system, they can contact, the K-State IT Help Desk in 313 Hale Library or 532-7722.
