Release Notes for UCL/IC OS, Software and Hardware
Upgrades
Version 1.0This document describes Operating System, Software and Hardware
enhancements included in the University Computing Labs (UCL) and Information Commons (IC).
Also included is a list of known issues that you may encounter. Please review these
enhancements and issues so that you can be aware of them and help you to resolve any
problems you might be experiencing before making a support call.
If you encounter additional issues as you use the PC's provided in the UCL and
InfoCommons environments, please report them to the iTAC HelpDesk 532-7722 as a UCL/IC
Upgrade Problem. They will enter the report in to the Remedy Action Request System
assigned to LAN Technologies so that the issue can be fixed in an upcoming update or
maintenance release.
Operating System enhancements on this release
- Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2- Microsoft's latest
operating system security update was released in all the UCL/IC computing lab
environments. This includes:
Hale Library (1st-4th Floors, 24 Hour Study)
Dickens 1
Justin 325
Seaton 22-24
Nichols 21
K-State Student Union (Cyber Cafe, Union Station & Copy Center)
Academic Learning Center (Hale & Vanier Football Complex)
Housing and Dining Services (All Residence Halls and Dining Centers)
Software enhancements on this release
New Additions:
- LiveHelp - Online support application (InfoCommons only)
- Putty - Unix terminal emulator, replaces Terra Term
- WinSCP - FTP application, replaces WS_FTP
- FireFox 1.0 - Internet Browser addition
Updates:
- Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3. Latest security and patches.
- Netscape 7.2 - Latest version of Internet Browser
- Norton AntiVirus 9.0 - Latest version of AntiVirus software.
- Adobe Acrobat 6.02 - Latest version of Acrobat PDF viewer.
- Media Player 10 - Latest version of Media Player media software.
- Spybot 1.3 - Latest version and detection rules to prevent spyware
Hardware enhancements on this release
Issues that you may encounter
- Corel Office Suite - MS Windows XP Service Pack 2 has caused the Corel
Office suite to become unstable. Consider using Microsoft Office suite in the meanwhile,
it will recognize WP formatted files..
- X-Win32 - Now requires a secure login. To perform properly, run
X-Win32, run Putty and login with your K-State eID. X-Win32 will open once the secure
login is completed successfully.
